Three Word Wednesday.

I had a meeting with the employees in the payroll section today.  I am their second line supervisor, but I might as well be first line.  Their supervisor is a great person, just not supervisor material.  That is a whole other story in itself and I really can't put it in writing as I could cause problems.

So, when I have these meetings one of the things I am always striving for is to break the negative thinking that permeates the payroll section.  Today when I broached one topic one of the more senior techs huffed, but then she said something to the fact of, can "we" come up with a plan, I mean, will you be open to us coming up with a plan.  I smiled, a big smile, and said of course.  I would love nothing more than for you to all work together to come up with a plan. 

It may only be a little scratch on the surface of the negative thinking, but I have high hopes that the fact that they have asked to come up with a plan will cause them to come together as a team and be more positive about the work itself.

Tuesday's Tales

Ah, this one works for me.  I have such great memories in my life, but when I want to pull them up my organic hard drive fails me.  I do have one that is a gem though.


Hubby, Pop and I were at the Movie Gallery one Friday night picking out movies to watch for the weekend.  This was a regular thing for us to do together as a family in the early years of my marriage when we still lived in the same state, town, as my parents.  Of course Kerry inevitably fell asleep during the movies and could not remember one week to the next what we rented the week before.  Kerry, "How about this one Pop?" and Pop replies, "We rented that one last week Kerry."  You gotta love it.


But I digress.  This particular night we are looking at movies and I am up close to read one, because I am blind as a bat, and when I stand back, I grab for Kerry's hand, very normal to hold hands, we do it all the time.  Accept, it was not Kerry's hand.  It was some female.  She went off, you would have thought I had some disease and had just given it to her.  I apologized and said I thought my husband was standing beside me, but she would not let it rest.  She thought I was some lesbian and was coming on to her.  Really?  I do not think that is how I would pick up a fem if I was a lesbian...please.  You had to see this lady though...it was "oh, my God, oh, my God" and she just would not stop.  She was hysterical.  Teach me to look before grabbing a hand again...


It was pretty funny really.  My dad could not stop laughing...actually neither he nor Kerry came to my rescue...they stood back watching...and laughing...


So, that is my true tale for this Tuesday....hope you got a laugh out of it too...too bad it was before we had picture phones...lol

Broccoli Casserole

When I go to the Black-eyed Pea restaurant or Cheddars I almost always get the broccoli casserole.  I have never attempted to make this myself, but I had a craving for it this weekend and we are trying not to eat out as much so I decided to make it myself with my own twist to it.  I read a few recipes, got an idea of what others had done and then made it how I thought it should be done.

Stephie's Broccoli Casserole Recipe

(I think this will be 6 large servings or 8 smaller servings.)
Heat over to 350.

1 can Low Fat/Low Sodium Cream of Mushroom Soup
14 oz bag Broccoli Florets
1 cup Uncooked Brown Rice
1 tbsp Butter
1 small onion, chopped small
1/2 tsp Ms. Dash Table Blend
1 pint cut up baby bella mushrooms
2 cups shredded Cheddar


Cook the rice as directed on package.  Steam the broccoli in the bag if it is the steamer type or in a steamer.  Sauté the chopped onions in the butter and sprinkle with the Ms. Dash.  Combine the mushroom soup, broccoli, cooked rice, onions, mushrooms and 1 1/2 cups of cheese in a large bowl.  Mix together well.  Oil a 2 liter casserole dish and put the mixture in the dish.  Top with the remainder of cheese.  Put in oven and back for 30 minutes.

Kerry grilled pork chops.  This was a wonderful dinner!!

Well, I use Facebook and Twitter the most.  I like Facebook because it has allowed me to be closer to my family all over the country and to renew some friendships from many years ago.  I use Tweetcaster on my Android phone to post updates and have them update my Facebook.   I follow breaking news on Twitter, Dealsplus, and many other interesting groups and people.


I am also on geni.com, is a networking site, but has allowed us to network with my family and for extended family to help us build our family tree.  I am on LinkedIn.  I joined it to connect with other people from the Department of Veterans Affairs.


I also use Shelfari.com.  I am an avid reader and it has been great to see what other people read and has brought me new authors to read.  I guess my sixth one would be Meetup.com.  I have met some good people on there and even joined a kickball league that got me active again.

South Padre Trip

I will first apologize...and I seem to do that a lot...huh?

June was crazy and I can't figure out where July went...

So, the first full week of June we went to South Padre Island with my sister-in-law and her family.  We had a really good time.  Relaxed on the beach, reading, long talks, good food, and fun with the kids.

Here are some pics of our time there...

I even ventured out into the water...it kicked my butt...and I came in every time I got salt water in my eye.

Now the whole family is going make a castle...or are they just playing around?

Relaxing under the canopy again...Yes, this is why I did not look like I had been to the beach when I got back...no skin cancer for me, thank you.

The Port Isabel Lighthouse...oh, and Kerry...they show movies on the wall of the lighthouse in the summer.

Kerry went up...it was too hot and too narrow for me...

Then we went to a local museum where Kerry made some new friends...

Dan celebrated his birthday while we were there and he chose to go out for Mexican food that night.  Afterwards we went down to the pool.  Dori and I sat and talked while the rest played in the water.

We had a really good time and plan to make it an annual event.  It was very relaxing and it is only a 9 hour drive.  

So, that was our trip at the beginning of June.  Stay tuned for my next blog this weekend...the trip to Florida.

Souper Salad is one of my favorite places to go out to eat...haven't been in a long time...maybe I will get a chance next weekend.

My favorite thing to eat there is the ginger bread, but I am working on getting off of those simple carbs that just help to aid the girth I carry around.
