Over Due for Vacation

OMG, okay...I decided to put a countdown on my blog to look forward to our vacation...it is like...sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, did you get my point...OVER DUE.....

Everything at work is getting to me...and when I say everything...I mean everything...I even typed something in an email today that I usually would not do and now I think the supervisor of the employee is mad at me.  I really don't care, but I do try to keep myself above stuff and this time I sunk...I actually told the employee if she could not understand my very clear instructions that maybe she should be removed from her duties...bad, huh?  What is bad is that I put it in writing...oh, well...what are they going to do...tell me not to do that?

So, let's talk about vacation...kewl thing is I can talk about it now and then talk even more about it aftewards and even have pics I took afterwards...

We are going to South Padre Island...It is in Texas....where I live, but it is 9 hours from here...I just don't see how a state can be so big that something in the state is 9 hours away.  Another 5 hours and I would be in GA...LOL

It appears they have some really great things to do...and we will do some of them...but I am really, really looking forward to the beach!!

I did see where they have a light house and museum and it appears they show movies on the outside of the lighthouse at night...how kewl is that?  To bad the summer movie session does not start until after we leave...but it is a kewl thing I do think.

They have a place for massages...I would love to give Kerry that as a gift....he loves getting massages.  

We will be spending the week with our family.  My sister-in-law,  her hubby and their three kids, whom are a lot of fun.  I can't wait.  I have not seen them since Christmas and miss them a lot.

Weekly Wrap Up

Wowzer...I didn't blog at all in almost two weeks...and I was doing so well.


Well, since the 27th my allergies have taken over the upper region of my body...all kinds of junk in my lungs from the sinuses running..not a good thing when you have asthma...and today my voice is all squeaky and cracking.  I got a steroid shot to help last Friday, but it does not seem to be doing anything.  I might need to make an appointment with the allergist.


Well on the 3rd we had the first part of home study...all of the questions...she still needs to do a walk through of the house...that will hopefully be by next Friday.  So close to being done with the preparation part of this...it feels good.  We gave her the name and number of the little girl we are interested in adopting...waiting to hear from her on that...


Not much else going on really...looking forward to next month when I get to spend a week with my sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and the nieces and nephew at the beach.  We need a week off and spending it with them could not be better, just would have been nice to have had our child with us to bring on the trip.  Believe me as soon as she is with us on a more permanent basis, not the first weekend visits that occur...we will be asking the judge for permission to bring her to NM to visit with the family.


Not doing much this weekend as Kerry is working...do need to clean up a little in the house, but not going to do that much as I feel drained from all of this sinus uck.

1) How often do you whisper?

I rarely whisper...no reason to...now...about to have a child in my house before long...that might change.

2) When was the last time you called a help hotline? Did it solve the problem?

I have never had a reason to call a help line either...hmmm, am I living a sheltered life?  No whispering and no help lines...

3) How much time do you spend on yourself daily on average?

Maybe 30 minutes...or an hour...really depends...

My Bucket List

Every day I say I am going to blog, and then...I don't...I like to have time to sit and think so if I don't then I don't blog.  Yesterday I did, but then I did have time other stuff and never got around to blogging...

I am really trying to get away from doing meme's.  Yesterday hubby and I watched Griffin and Phoenix.  It is a love story about two people who are dying from cancer.  Neither know the other is dying nor do they know that the other has cancer also.  It stars Dermot Mulroney and Amanda Peet.  I think it is a must see...really.   But the reason I bring it up is because it got me thinking of what I would want to do if I knew I had an incurable disease.  So, here I go with my bucket list.

1.  I have always wanted to go to Machu Pichu in Peru. (will definitely need to lose weight to be able to do this walk)

2.  I would like to stay three to four weeks on the Waterford Coast in Ireland.  Preferably in a cottage...maybe even a thatched roof...

3.  I want to visit Australia

4.  I want to walk on the Great Wall of China

5.  Visit Hawaii for a week or two

6.  I want to vacation in the Mediterranean, preferably Greece and explore some of the old caves known for being used to worship goddesses in past history

7.  I would like to spend a summer in Tuscany, Italy.  

8.  I want to go dog sledding in Alaska.

9.  I want to walk through the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.

10.  I want to visit Yellow Stone park.

11.  I want to attend an opening ceremony of the Olympic games.

12.  I want to sky dive.

13.  I want to climb to the top of Kilimanjaro.

Okay, those are the things that come to mind right off the bat.  I reserve the right to add to this list...and as I accomplish these things...well...that will just be tinder for blogging...

Going Back to School

I got my acceptance letter today from Tarrant County Community college.  I have registered for one class and would like to register for another, but it says I need to take some placement exam or provide my SAT scores.  It has been over 23 years since I took those exams so I don't know how to get the scores.  I am going to send the paperwork off tomorrow for the transcript from the college I attended in GA in 1990.  Yeah, it has been 20 years since I attended school.  I am excited and nervous...

The main reason I decided to do this is because I need 24 hours of accounting to qualify for other jobs in the finance area at work or other agencies.  Though that is the main reason I figure I might as well get my Associates degree because I already have on year done and with these 24 hours it should not take that long.  Of course part of that depends on how many credit hours they will accept from before.  The only ones I think they may not take is biology.  Well, at least BIO102...I can't remember what I made in BIO 101, but I know I got a D in 102.

Once I am done with this then I need to decide if Iwant to go on for my Bachelor's Degree.  I really don't need it for work, but there is the sence of accomplishment and then what if I need it or want it when I retire to do whatever it is I am going to do then.  I heck...maybe I'll go for my Phd or something then...lol  We'll see...but this is the first time in a long time I have wanted to do this...and am excited and looking forward to it.

Small Garden Patch

Last year I planted Gerber Daisies in the little piece of flower bed we have out front.  For some reason after the first blooms were dying and then pinched off they never bloomed again.  Kerry planted a very small rose bush that only had to stems and it did fine.

So, Kerry decided to try his hand at it again this year.  We bought a tray of Portulaca today to plant out front.  Kerry already has them in the ground.  This year he put newspaper down and then mulch over it.  He really needs more mulch based on what I learned at the Garden Show this year, but we can always add more.

This is the full space he had to plant in.  It is right in front of our porch.  We brought the St. Francis statue from Mississippi and we have had that little tiny bird bath since we lived in Euless, TX.

This is the Portulaca.  They like to spread out.  They are one of my favorite flowers for a flower bed.

I picked up this dragonfly garden decoration at Hobby Lobby about a month ago.  It was only 3.00 that day.

Friday Question #109

Friday's Question

What herbs/spices do you love? What herbs/spices do you loathe?


Okay, my first all time favorite is basil.  I love the taste of basil and it can go with so many things.  The other items I use the most are garlic and this Smokey Sweet Pepper spice from McCormick.  I actually use this Smokey Sweet Pepper on everything...it is awesome for flavor.


The only item I can think of that I really, really don't like is Rosemary.  I really don't care for the smell nor the taste.

Personal Support Network

As we are getting closer and closer to being approved to be able to adopt a child in the state of Texas I am becoming more and more aware that because of all of our moving our support network is spread far and wide.  As we think about who is local to watch our child, especially during the fostering period, we are very limited as we have many acquaintances, but few people we would call "good friends". 

We talk about going to church more regular and getting involved, which would help us to meet people.  I even joined a couples meet-up group, but we have not had a chance to make any of their gatherings.  Kerry is only off every other weekend and we just seem to never want to give up that 2 hours on Sunday and then to invest the time for other things during the week.

I even have a cousin that lives in the area.  We were never real close, mostly because of the difference in our ages and that our parents were not close and we grew up far apart.  It would be nice to get to know her better and maybe then our children would have a chance to know each other better.

We also have Kerry's sister and her family six hours away.  A little far for calling over and asking if she could watch our child, but still close enough if it was a major emergency that they could make arrangements to come offer support.

I am closest with Kerry's sister than anyone else in the area, though she is somewhart far for day to day contact, but I fortunately do have a couple very good friends we have made over the past few years and a new one that I am becoming attached to...so, we have a small support network and will just have to work on making it a bit bigger.

As we go through this process it really makes you look at your life and how you have lived it and what will be changing.  This causes me to go through a gamut of emotions, but I find it somewhat refreshing also.  I am working on making some meaingful changes in my life from all of this introspection...stay tuned for the new me as I evolve...

Evening with a Stranger

I had no clue what to call this post.

We decided to go to Pizza Hut for dinner, which we have not done in over a year.  When we walked it there was an elderly man sitting there by himself just waiting on his food.  We ordered and then went to sit down.  The gentleman noticed the W on Kerry's work shirt and thought it was a Westinghouse shirt.  Kerry told him it was for Isle of Watermere and that is a retirement community.

After that the gentleman started talking and we would talk once in awhile, but did not say very much.  He just talked the whole time.  It was great, he was involved with that space craft with the two monkey's in the 60s.  The same two monkey's that they have in the Smithsonian.  He worked with Bell Helicopter his whole life and has bee n all over the world.  It was a great dinner.

I always lover talking to elderly people.  It also made me think about my Grandpa and now much I miss talking to him and hearing his great stories of his life.

So, I wanted to share that...I guess I am a little melancholy now.  I have Grandpa's picture right in front of me here all of the time in the living room...miss him so much.  I find lately I have been talking about him a lot to people.  Little things they say will make me think about him...so he is on my mind a lot.  But not being able to pick up the phone and call him and hear that unique voice and his wonderful laugh will always be hard...Nights like tonight bring that home to me...
